About this event
As presented at the American Coalition for Syria’s March 2022 events in D.C. a group of Syrian Americans residing in the U.S. is calling for a National Conference for Syrians in America that will comprise all Syrians who believe in an inclusive, diverse, and democratic Syria that builds on equal citizenship, espouses the rule of law, and respects human rights. The conference will be held in Washington DC, on September 9-10, 2022.

The Preparatory Committee for the Conference has the honor to invite you to participate in this comprehensive national meeting and partake in the development of a national charter that will be a guide for all Syrians and a starting point in finding a political solution to their current crisis and in building the desired Syria that will replace the tyranny state.
The rigorous effort of all Syrians who believe in freedom, seek to end the Syrian tragedy, and aspire to achieve justice is the indispensable prelude to getting there. We hope that this conference builds on the current work of the ACS member organizations and that it will be the beginning of a comprehensive national conference for all Syrians.
In preparation for the convening of the National Conference, we invite you to reflect on the following questions that will be discussed by the conferees:
Do you approve equality among all Syrians regardless of any other ethnic, tribal, religious/sectarian, racial, national, or linguistic affiliation?
Do you agree that the state must be neutral towards all communities and individuals, and embrace separation between religion and state institutions?
Do you accept the principle of separation of judicial, legislative, and executive powers?
Do you agree to the principle of the rule of law and the necessity that all Syrians are equal before the law?
Do you think that the future Syria should protect public and individual freedoms, foremost of which is the freedom of belief and expression of opinion, the rights of peaceful assembly, the rights to demonstrate and strike, and the right to form civil, civil, and political organizations?
Do you adhere to the geographical unity of Syria and the independence and sovereignty of Syria?
Do you agree on the right of all communities to practice their rituals and preserve their privacy, including speaking their language within the umbrella of the one nation and under the sovereignty and constitution of the one Syrian nation and its effective laws?
We hope that the National Conference will be able to reassess the basic demands of the Syrian revolution to overthrow tyranny and establish a democratic Syrian civil society based on freedom, dignity, equal citizenship, and justice. We aspire that it will develop an action plan to communicate with Syrians inside Syria and in the diaspora to promote the ideas of the conference and call for a general conference for Syrians, based on sincerity, competency, justice, integrity, transparency, and independence.
The cost of travel, accommodation, and registration will be borne by the participants. Special cases, however, in which participants cannot secure the cost can be discussed. No funding shall be accepted from any non-Syrian source. The founding members shall bear the expenses of booking the meeting venue and accept the contribution of any Syrian to cover the expenses.
