The House of the Seven Gables
New Immigrant and Refugee Visions is a collection of documentary films by and about new immigrants in the United States.
Their stories provide a unique insider perspective on the integration challenges faced by immigrants and the contributions they make to the culture, economy and social fabric of the United States. Join us to see these 10 unique films made by 10 immigrants. Each film will be followed by a community conversation about a variety of topics related to immigration.
Schedule for June 10:
- Lift with Your Heart– Choreographer Jean Appolon struggled to find a sense of belonging. He discovered his purpose in teaching dance to heal and engage community members.
- Filmmaker: Braulio Tellez-Vilches works as a safety and catering instructor at Logan Airport and volunteers with Catholic Charities & ILC. He emigrated from Cuba in 2017 and now lives in East Boston, MA
- Rhythms of Respect- A Puerto Rican Afro-Caribbean musician, dancer and activist demonstrates how he uses ‘cultural activism’ to strengthen those outside the dominant culture and expand cross-cultural understanding and respect.
- Filmmaker: Katsyris Rivera Kientz is a PhD student in Sociology at UMass Boston; she moved from Puerto Rico in 2016 and now lives in Cambridge, MA.
