Celebrate the Arab and Arab American identity!

About this event

The New York Arab Festival (NYAF) in partnership with The Invisible Dog Art Center presents a series of live performances for the inaugural edition of the festival. Founded by HaRaKa Platform, in partnership with Wizara, NYAF aims to fight against the erasure of the Arab and Arab American identity in the city’s social fabric, and is timed this year with the National Arab American Heritage Month, and the month of Ramadan. As the festival celebrates the multiplicities of the Arab and Arab American identity, the program at The Invisible Dog reflects this rich diversity both in form as well as in content. The program will present visual artist Manar Abdelmaaboud presenting live painting that investigates Disney’s racialized depictions, choreographer and dancer Nadia Khayrallah will perform her latest embodied research, the spectacular Brooklyn Maqam music collective will present live music by their stellar musicians including Zahra Al Zubaidi, Sami Abu Shumays, Omar Dewachi and Nezih Antakli. During Iftar time, the moment of breaking the fast during Ramadan evenings, a small Iftar will be available for the attendees. Afterwards, the evening will close with the live dance performance of the extraordinary choreographer and dancer Esraa Warda with her music band, presenting vivacious Algerian and North African dance and music.

Doors open 5:30pm

Performances start 6pm
