Islamophobia has risen significantly in the past few years, yet the response of NJ Muslims has been lacking. CAIR reports that over 50% of NJ Muslims were victims of racial or religious harassment at least once. Over 50% of American Muslim youth were victims of bullying in school. But 80% of Jersey Muslims kept the incidents to themselves, and only 12% reported it to police. Our communities are generally unaware of rapid response steps to Islamophobia: who to contact, how to report incidents, and what next steps are. Fortunately, we have countless advocacy organizations and groups to tackle this. How can we leverage our communities’ resources to ensure that they are reaching our community members when needed?
