Sahara Dance Central
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
Enjoy learning movement repertoire and combinations drawing from the Nubian regions surrounding Aswan, Egypt. Nubian dances are some of the oldest folk dances in Egypt, originating in the south between Egypt and Sudan. The traditional costuming is distinctive with long, light and colorful galabeyas to help deflect heat and protect from the sun. The music is rich and rhythmic, leading to soft, simple joyful movements. Mohamed will teach basic steps, expression and how to use the Nubian veil on your head. All levels of dancers are welcome! Please bring a 3-4 yard veil and hair clips to attach the veil to your head. Some veils will be available for purchase at the studio.
