Palestine &amp\; Climate Justice: Militarism as a Driver of Climate Crisis
  Event Promotional Poster[/caption]\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nWASHINGTON\,DC AND REMOT
E \n\nAs the genocide in Gaza continues with US support\, the North Ameri
can climate movement is becoming increasingly attuned to the role of milit
arism as a driver of climate crisis and multiplier of the climate and envi
ronmental vulnerabilities communites face as a consequence of military ope
rations undertaken by the US and its allies. In parallel\, organizers work
ing on progressive foreign policy have begun to seriously engage with the
climate crisis\, and are beginning to recognize the linkages between the e
xercise of US military power and environmental degradation.\n\nThis event
with start with remarks from Rep. Delia Ramirez on how her advocacy for a
ceasefire aligns with her work to drive climate investment into her distri
ct\, which will be following by a panel featuring Hebah Kassem\, Palestini
an political climate strategist \, Dr. Patrick Bigger\, research director
at the Climate and Community Project\, and Ashik Siddique\, co-chair of th
e Democratic Socialists of America. Panelists will discuss the overarching
environmental costs of maintaining the US global empire\, further impacts
from the weapons manufacturing industry\, and how those processes are mag
nified in Palestine right now. The panel will also discuss the critical im
portance of internationalism for winning just climate action in the US and
around the world. Panelists will discuss how divesting from militarizatio
n and investing in just climate action at home and abroad is necessary to
meet climate and environmental goals while creating possibilities for comm
unities not just to survive\, but thrive\, as the impacts of climate chang
e intensify. Panelists will discuss how Palestine is a litmus test for the
US climate left to start to shift toward a more internationalist outlook
that demands climate justice in all countries- because there will be clima
te justice everywhere\, or none at all.
