SUMMARY:Palestine/Israel Film Series hosted by Pasadena Churches
DESCRIPTION:PASADENA\, CA\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThis film series will offer local C
hristians across denominations an opportunity to grow together in understa
nding\, prayer\, and action in response to the deep suffering and injustic
es experienced by people in the Holy Land. We especially want to understan
d the history of what led up to both the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7th\, 2023
and the retaliation of Israel over the last year as we learn how we can re
spond as Christians. The series is hosted by different Pasadena churches a
nd sponsored by the Clergy Community Coalition\, the Center for Restora
tive Justice\, and Brehm Film of Fuller Theological Seminary.\nFilm Scre
ening Schedule\n\n January 17th\, 7-9 pm: "The Stones Cry Out: Voices o
f the Palestinian Christians" at First Baptist Church\, Pasadena\n Febru
ary 20th: Occupation 101: Voices of the Silenced Majority at Pasadena Fo
ursquare Church\n March (date and location TBD): "1948: Creation and Cat
astrophe"\n April (date and location TBD): "Where Olive Trees Weep" at
Fuller Seminary\n May (date TBD): "Gaza Fights for Freedom" at La Fue
nte Ministries located at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena\; Bili
ngual Spanish/ English screening and discussion hosted by La Fuente Minist
ries and Pasadena Mennonite Church\n June (date and location TBD): Where
do we go from here?: Final Potluck and Discussion\n\nBased on the content
of the films we recommend children be 12+. Younger children can attend wi
th parental supervision.\nGuiding values for film series and discussions:\
n\n Join in education that leads to action: We value the kind of educatio
n that isn’t just for the sake of more knowledge\, but that moves us tow
ard hopeful action together – by the power of the Holy Spirit – to joi
n in God’s reign of justice\, peace and love.\n Offer safe/ brave space
: We want to create spaces where members of our congregations will feel s
afe and brave enough to bring their honest and vulnerable questions\, and
where it is okay to come with very little background knowledge with a spir
it of humility and mutual learning.\n Grow in prayer and community: We va
lue the power of prayer in unity as the body of Christ. We desire to come
together across denominations in Pasadena to pray after each film\, and co
nnect with a larger community of people who are seeking to wrestle with gl
obal political issues and their faith.\n Lament: We desire to “mourn w
ith those who mourn” (Romans 12:15) and to open our hearts to lament wit
h those who are grieving in the Holy Land. This may also include confessio
n of our own sins and the sins of our nation.\n Christian witness: We wa
nt to listen to the often-unheard voices of Palestinian Christians and lis
ten for how the Spirit of God is calling us to respond to their testimonie
 s. We recognize the image of God in Jews and Muslims living in the Holy La
nd as well\, and value their voices through these films.\n Offer tangible
support to those suffering: Participants in each film screening will be
invited to donate* toward suggested humanitarian aid organizations in Gaza
who are offering life-saving support in the midst of famine\, starvation
and the lack of medical care.\n Seek Jesus’ justice and peace: Jesus pr
oclaimed freedom for the oppressed as part of his Luke 4 “mission statem
ent” (v.18). In that spirit\, we seek to respond to what we see and hear
in these films with Jesus’ compassion for the oppressed and with the va
lues of practicing Jesus’ justice and peace.\n\n*Donations will be colle
cted at each film screening and will go to one of the following humanitari
an aid groups:\n\n Palestine Children's Relief Fund (https://pcrf.net)\n
Middle East Children's Alliance (www.mecaforpeace.org)\n KINDER USA (
 www.kinderusa.org)\n UNICEF (www.unicefusa.org)\n UNRWA (unrawusa.org)
 \n Doctors Without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/\n\nLo
oking forward to growing and partnering together!
