About this Event
At the Penn Arab Student Society’s (PASS) BIGGEST event yet, you will hear stand-up comedy inspired by Atheer’s upbringing as Palestinian-Muslim in Alabama, and Nataly’s life moving from Lebanon to New York as a young, rising comedian. Also, Danish Maqbool will be MC’ing the show! This performance is open to anyone and everyone—Arab, American, or anything in between!
This event is FREE, but as seating is limited, please reserve your ticket prior to the event!
Doors open at 8pm on Wednesday, November 20th at the Houston Hall of Flags!
PASS is extremely grateful for our generous sponsors, The Middle East Center, The Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication, and the Assembly of International Students, without whom this event could not have been possible! If you have any questions, please email email@example.com.
About Atheer Yacoub:
Atheer Yacoub is a New York based comedian, writer, and podcaster. Atheer’s comedy draws from her personal experience growing up as a Palestinian-Muslim in Alabama.
She came to the city with high hopes of making it in a respectable career, but found herself in comedy instead. She makes her traditional Arab mother proud by standing in front of complete strangers and talking about her mismatched upbringing, her misadventures in the big city, and the psychological baggage both entail.Inspired by everything from Lucille Ball to Dave Chappelle, Atheer wants to bring her unique perspective to the larger comedy world in the vain hopes that someone out there can prescribe her the right pills to make it all better.
Atheer has recently released her half-house special on Comedy Central Arabia and appeared on Gotham Comedy Live, which aired on AXSTV. She was also a writer on The Breakdown with Mehdi Barakchian and Passport Control with Mehdi Barakchian, which aired on BRICTV. She co-hosts The No Fly List Podcast and is the co-creator of the web series Muslim Girls DTF: Discuss Their Faith. She has performed in the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, Toronto’s SheDot Festival, The New York Arab American Comedy Festival, The Big Brown Comedy Hour, and 1001 Laughs Dearborn Comedy Festival.
About Nataly Aukar:
Nataly is a Lebanese born and raised stand-up comic based in New York City.
For many years, Nataly graced her grandparents’ living room as her main stage, ignoring her family’s constant cries for some peace and quiet. After working as a writer at a production house in Lebanon throughout her University years, Nataly took a leap to pursue comedy in New York, a place where her family would no longer tell her to shut up (but everyone else would).
She talks about her past and present lives, how one affected the other, her family, her hot Lebanese friends, dating, her sexuality in Lebanon, her sexuality in America, her fears, her flaws, and everything that makes you a better person than she is.
Her mom describes Nataly as really pretty when she makes an effort and her friends describe her as great when you get to know her. She was a producer of Tickling the Ivories, a weekly comedy show at Pianos in NYC’s Lower East Side, featured on TimeOutNY and has opened for Nimesh Patel (Saturday Night Live), Mo Amer (Colbert, Fallon, Netflix) and Gad El Maleh as part of his Dream Tour in DC, Canada and Dubai.
