ONLINE EVENT

Sun, 27 March 2022

04:30 – 05:30 EDT

Celebrate Ramadan with internationally acclaimed Arabic storyteller Alia Alzougbi in this live online storytelling performance.

About this event

Celebrate Ramadan with internationally acclaimed Arabic storyteller Alia Alzougbi in this live online storytelling performance.

Ramadan is one of the world’s largest religious events – celebrated by Muslims across the world. The celebration falls in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which the Quran is believed to be revealed to the prophet Muhammad.

Learn more about Ramadan, its stories and traditions with professional, international storyteller Alia Alzougbi in this free online performance.

The storytelling Performance

Inspired by the wisdom of her Arab and Muslim heritage, Alia will share a selection of short stories introducing your pupils to Muslim traditions and cultures of the Arab world.

Here they will meet the snowflake who weeps when she starts to melt… until she links up with her water drop friends and races joyfully with them as a stream. They will get to know a golden child whose light shines through the cracks (and learn that there is a light inside them too!) And they will laugh out loud as she tells real stories from her childhood growing up in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria & Iraq during Ramadan.

We will finish with an Arabic song, typically sung at the end of Ramadan for Eid celebrations, which children will learn and they can join in with and learn some Arabic sounds.

The show will be followed by a Q & A allowing young people to ask questions.

How to watch

Join us live on Wednesday 27th April at 9.30am for 30 minutes of storytelling followed by a live streamed Q & A with Alia so your pupils can ask questions.

We recommend watching the show live but if you miss it, a recording will be available to watch until 12pm on the 11th May. To access the recording you still need to register for the event.
