Join AANM and Dearborn Public Library for a conversation about representation, race and identity with Cicely Lewis and Malaka Gharib! Gharib is an NPR editor and author of the 2020 Arab American Book Award-winning graphic memoir I Was Their American Dream. Lewis is the founder of the Read Woke Challenge*, and also School Library Journal’s 2020 School Librarian of the Year.

*Dearborn Public Library hosts an all ages Read Woke Challenge, Jan. 11-Feb. 20, 2021. The Read Woke Challenge encourages community members to read “woke” books and engage in thoughtful dialogue surrounding the themes and topics addressed in the books. What are woke books? They are titles that focus on protagonists from underrepresented groups and/or challenge the status quo or social norms. Learn more or take the Read Woke Challenge

Due to the pandemic, we have been closed to the public since March 13, 2020. Closed doors mean that our earned revenue streams have dried up, and corporate funds have been pivoted to assist with COVID-19 relief or for their own financial survival. We are looking forward to the day we can safely reopen, but until then, we need your support.

Your donation today will help us weather this crisis.
