Jalal Kimia has been actively teaching Daf since 2013. In 2018, after a few years of teaching, he started selecting some of his hardest working and most talented students and established a Daf band under Rumi Daf Ensemble. Creating this band has helped to introduce the Daf instrument to western culture.
Rumi Daf Ensemble has held various performances since it was formed, including at Carnegie Institute for Science, Virginia Tech University, and the Annual Conference of Chicago.
