Date(s) - 09/12/2021
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Peabody Hall, All Saints Church
The maqam is the classical vocal tradition of Iraq and one of the most refined of the many maqam traditions found throughout the Arab and Muslim world. In Iraq, the term maqam refers to highly-structured, semi-improvised, compositions that take years of disciplined study under a master to learn fully. Often rhythmically free and meditative, they are sung to Classical Arabic and colloquial Iraqi poetry, and are followed by light-hearted, rhythmic songs, known as pestaat.
COVID Considerations: As we return to in-person performances, your health and safety are of paramount importance to us. Therefore, along with many other music presenters in Boston, we are requiring attendees to provide proof of vaccination, either in paper or electronic form. Children under 12 are exempt from this requirement. Those with a medical condition or religious beliefs which prevent vaccination are also exempt, but will need to present proof of a negative COVID PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance. Masks will also be required for all attendees.
