DESCRIPTION:Chautauqua\, NY\nSarah R. bin Tyeer is currently an assistant p
 rofessor of Arabic literature at the department of Middle East\, South Asi
 an and African Studies at Columbia University\, where she is also an affil
 iate faculty at the Middle East Institute\, Institute of Comparative Liter
 ature and Society\, and the Medieval &amp\; Renaissance Studies Program. S
 he joins the Chautauqua Lecture Series in the week on “Literature and Me
 aning-Making” with a discussion on how classical texts can expand our mo
 ral imagination\, and what the endurance of these texts can tell us today.
 \n\nShe is the author of the monograph The Qur’an and the Aesthetics of 
 Premodern Arabic Prose (Palgrave Macmillan\, 2016)\, which has received nu
 merous critical praises. She is also the co-editor of the volume Islam and
  New Directions in World Literature (Edinburgh University Press\, 2023). H
 er recent publications include chapters in the volumes: Qur’an and Adab:
  The Shaping of Classical Literary Tradition\, The Beloved in Middle East 
 Literature: The Culture of Love and Languishing\, and The City in Premoder
 n and Modern Arabic Literature\; The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Ethics\, a
 nd most recently her article “Textual Traces: Historical Consciousness b
 etween Intertextuality and Filiation” in al-Markaz: Journal of Arabic St
 udies (Brill). Bin Tyeer’s academic research interests focus on the inte
 rsection of literature with ethics and religion.\n\nBin Tyeer is also the 
 co-founder of the Adab Colloquium Series at Columbia University\, a monthl
 y webinar featuring scholars from around the world discussing premodern an
 d early modern literary\, philosophical\, and spiritual works from across 
 the Islamicate languages and literatures (Arabic\, Persian\, Ottoman\, Urd
 u) and beyond.\n\nBin Tyeer earned a Ph.D. in Classical Arabic Studies fro
 m SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies\, University of London)\; a
 nd an M.A. in English &amp\; Comparative Literature. She is trained in Eng
 lish &amp\; Comparative Literature\, and Classical Arabic literature (adab
