DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Dear Friends,
The NAO’s 2018-19 season was a resounding success with performances across the country in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Flint and San Antonio. Our Building Bridges Through Music program has taught over 500 students from different high schools and we are now set to expand the program to include students throughout the state of Michigan with satellite programs currently running in Houston and San Antonio.  We also launched Intersections, a program designed to explore new music and performance works with a diverse range of established and emerging artists with a performance that debuted in San Antonio. Through the generous support of our NAO Family, we have been able to expand our reach, foster new partnerships, and create exciting new collaborations that have helped the NAO reach new heights.
With our 10th Year Anniversary season just around the corner, we can not wait to share the exciting programs we have in store with performances in Detroit, Flint, Houston, San Antonio, Saginaw, MI, and Williams, MA. along with brand new collaborations and performances from our Building Bridges Through Music and Mentorship Programs. In addition to the number of concerts we have scheduled around the country, we are also launching a new educational concert series taking place in San Antonio, TX, Saginaw Valley State University, and Williams College offering programs designed to give the audience a live demonstration of fundamental elements in Arab music.

Update: Building Bridges Through Music
On March 2 the NAO presented MIdEast in MoTown, a concert that celebrated Arab American heritage in Metro Detroit. The concert featured a program that gave the audience an auditory glimpse of the musical culture of Arab Americans as the emigrated to Metro Detroit in the 60’s and 70’s. In addition to our classical programming, the concert also featured a collaborative work by our Music Director that included over 140 students from our Building Bridges Through Music and Mentorship programs performing MoTown hit, “Dancing in the Street” along with a multi-media presentation highlighting Arab American life during that era.
