Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 4:00 pm EDT.

Join us for this virtual open house exploring classical and medieval literary and scholarly Arab writers and their writings through Arabic manuscripts preserved in the Special Collections Research Center of the University Library.

Carefully transcribed copies of classic literary works by al-Mutanabbī (d.965), Abū al-ʻAlāʼ al-Maʻarrī (d.1057), and al-Ḥarīrī (d.1122) will be featured (in images and video!) along with influential grammatical, scientific, and mystical writings — even a text on musical theory and performance.

Curator Evyn Kropf will introduce the collection and the manuscripts and Professor Samer Ali will share reflections on how the poetry of al-Mutanabbī can resonate with us today.

We hope you can join us!
