About the Event
Jordan is home to hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing wars and violence in Iraq, Syria and other countries. It has a particularly large population (around 1.4 million) of Syrian refugees, who fled Syria due to the civil war that began in 2011. This spring break, a group of Columbia MSW students traveled to Jordan under the supervision of CSSW lecturer Mashkhura Akilova to work with four organizations providing empowerment programs and services for Syrian and other refugees to that country: USAID, Reclaim Childhood, Questscope, and Center for Victims of Torture. At this event, the students report back on their field experiences as well as the outcomes of studies to which they have contributed.
