Discussion Panelists and Moderator :
Carol Mansour is an independent documentary film maker whose work reflects her concern for human rights and social justice, covering issues such as environmental degradation, child labor, mental health, and war and memory. She founded Forward Film Production in 2000 in Beirut, Lebanon. With over 25 years in documentary production, Mansour has achieved international recognition, with over 50 film festival screenings and official selections worldwide. Carol is Lebanese, and of Palestinian origin. She studied in Montreal, Canada, and is currently living and working in Beirut.
Salma El-Yassir is a management professional with over 30 years of experience in both the private and development sectors. Her most recent position was Director General of the Institute for Palestine Studies, an institute focused on the Middle East conflict. Prior to that, she was the Country Director of the Welfare Association (Ta’awon) in Lebanon, the largest Palestinian NGO. She has Master’s degrees in both Public Health and Public Policy, the latter from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
Wafa Ghnaim is artist in residence at the Museum of the Palestinian People, instructor at the Smithsonian Museum, and a field researcher at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She received the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Traditional Arts for her work in preserving and teaching Palestinian embroidery. Her book, Tatreez & Tea: Embroidery and Storytelling in the Palestinian Diaspora, documents the traditional patterns used by her mother, Feryal Abbasi-Ghnaim. Vogue Magazine, named both women “the world’s leading guardians of tatreez.”
