“Syrian Families Settling in Fresno: Discovering and Decolonizing Shared Histories” – a fundraiser for Syrian refugees – Saturday, September 23 at 6:00 pm at Collect Coffee Bar in Fresno. Please join us for this special event, including a reading by Palestinian American novelist, American Book Award winner Randa Jarrar; a reading by Fresno Poet Laureate Emeritus Lee Herrick; and featuring Syrian families sharing stories of their journey to the United States.
Homemade Syrian finger foods will be served. We are raising funds to help the families publish a cookbook and help with their transition to Fresno. This event is sponsored by the James Irvine Foundation, Pan Valley Institute, and the Tamejavi Cultural Organizing Committee, with special thanks to Wasan Abu Baker. Please share widely, and we hope to see you on Sept. 23. Cash or checks will be accepted, but no one will be turned away at the door. Please come welcome and support these new Syrian refugees to our city.
