DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin the Middle East Policy Forum for this hybrid panel dis
 cussion on The War in Gaza\, Iran\, and the Houthis. Guests may attend in

 tely via Zoom.\n\nAs Israel’s war in Gaza approaches its fifth month\, f
 ears of regional escalation are mounting as multiple nations target each o
 ther’s territories in a series of escalatory strikes. Israeli forces hav
 e clashed with Hezbollah along the Israel-Lebanon border since the start o
 f the war and have continued to strike targets in Syria as well. These hav
 e been joined by the Houthi’s attacks on shipping in the Red Sea to disr
 upt Israel’s war\, prompting retaliatory strikes from the US and UK. At 
 the same time\, Saudi Arabia has remained reluctant to restart military op
 erations against the Houthis. Meanwhile\, Iran has struck targets in Iraq 
 and Syria and engaged in tit-for-tat attacks against Pakistan.\n\nRSVP ONL

 s a Senior Fellow and Director of the Middle East Security Program at CNAS
 . Before joining CNAS\, Lord served as a professional staff member for the
  House Armed Services Committee\, serving the full committee and managing 
 the U.S. Central Command/Middle East defense policy portfolio\, as well as
  issues related to security assistance.\n\n 	\nSina Azodi is a Ph.D. candi
 date in international affairs at the University of South Florida\, where h
 e is completing a dissertation on Iran’s nuclear program. His research i
 nterests include international security\, nuclear nonproliferation\, and U
 .S.-Iranian relations. He was a research assistant at Princeton University
 ’s Program on Science and Global Security and at the Woodrow Wilson Inte
 rnational Center for Scholars. Sina is also a visiting scholar and a lectu
 rer of international affairs at The George Washington University’s Ellio
 tt School of International Affairs\, where he teaches a graduate course on
  Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East.\n\n 	\nBarbara Slavin is a di
 stinguished fellow at the Stimson Center in Washington and a lecturer in i
 nternational affairs at George Washington University. Before joining Stims
 on\, she founded and directed the Future of Iran Initiative at the Atlanti
 c Council and led a bi-partisan task force on Iran. The author of Bitter F
 riends\, Bosom Enemies: Iran\, the US and the Twisted Path to Confrontatio
 n (2007)\, she is a regular commentator on US foreign policy and Iran on N
 PR\, PBS\, and C-Span.\n\n 	\nNegar Mortazavi is an award-winning journali
 st and commentator\, editor and host of the Iran Podcast\, and a Senior Fe
 llow at the Center for International Policy (CIP)\, based in Washington DC
 . For over a decade\, she has covered Iranian and Middle Eastern affairs a
 nd US foreign policy towards the Middle East. Mortazavi is a frequent medi
 a commentator and has appeared on CNN\, NBC\, NPR\, BBC\, France24\, Aljaz
 eera\, and other global outlets. She has written for Foreign Policy magazi
 ne\, Politico\, The Intercept\, The Independent\, and other publications. 
 She is regularly invited to speak at panels and conferences around the wor
 ld about Iranian affairs and US foreign policy.\n\n\n
