The 2019 Algerian Revolution

About the Lecture: This lecture is about the on-going Algerian revolution that started in February 2019. We will look at the post Arab spring historical, geopolitical and economic context that led to the Algerian revolution, and will showcase revolutionary and counter-revolutionary techniques from the population and the Algerian regime.
About the Speaker: Dr. Zak Allal is a Medical Doctor, entrepreneur, research scholar, and pianist-composer. He has previously acted as a teaching fellow at Singularity University (SU) in medicine and neuroscience, a Silicon Valley think tank that offers educational programs and a business incubator focusing on scientific progress and “exponential” technologies (artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology) at the NASA Research Park in California. He later was appointed its ambassador to France. During Zak’s time as an ambassador, he advocated for technological progress and humanism and built partnerships with major French universities and corporations. He gave several talks on the topic, including one with French Minister of Education and Philosopher Luc Ferry where he publicly called for technological progress that benefits the human condition.
Before landing in Silicon Valley, Dr. Allal spent time in the United Nations in New York, the World Health Organization in Geneva, UNESCO in Paris (where he worked in knowledge management and strategic planning projects), and the SIPRI in Stockholm (doing research on health diplomacy and health security). Dr. Allal holds a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Oran in Algeria. He has completed his clinical rotations at the Hospitals of Harvard and Oxford where he focused respectively on heart surgery and interventional neuro-radiology. He also holds a certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship from Stanford Graduate School of Business, an Executive Master’s degree in Management and Strategic Economic Intelligence from the School of Economic Warfare in Paris, and a Professional Master’s degree in Strategic International Studies at IWP.

Only U.S. citizens will be admitted to this event, and only after each has registered online in advance of the event beginning. The following forms of identification will be considered by IWP as proving citizenship: a valid US Passport (original), a copy of a birth certificate proving birth in the U.S. (plus a photo ID), a U.S. Government issued Common Access Card (a CAC card), or a U.S. Certificate of Naturalization. No exceptions will be made for failure to produce one of these documents.
