Are you a super sleuth? Can you put together clues and track stories back through history? Join The Detroit History Club for an evening you’ll never forget: A scavenger hunt of a world-class museum, after hours, with 200 of your newest friends!
When you arrive at the closed Smithsonian affiliate museum, built-in 2005, you’ll be greeted with a glass of craft beer or wine. After a brief introduction and explanation of the rules you’ll be released into the entire 45.000 sq ft National Arab American Museum, which houses world-renowned art, historical, pop culture, and library collections; including an Emmy won by Tony Shalhoub, a pair of flapper’s high heels that traveled the Atlantic, and a flag hand-stitched in Lebanon that flew over the Arctic Circle. You’ll learn about the oldest piece in the collections, the gallery staff says is haunted, and the donations of the nation’s good and great who helped make the museum possible.
For two and a half hours the museum is yours to explore without crowds, but with a mission. It will be up to your team to solve the riddles to locate the correct piece of art or artifact; pottery to race cars, clothing to diplomatic pouches, press core typewriters to weavings, and everything in between. As the time ticks down, your team will make their way back to our starting location where you’ll turn in your scavenger hunt answers, grab a drink, and enjoy a seasonal, Lebanese and Yemeni dinner of freshly baked bread, meat and spinach pies, hummus, kabobs of beef, lamb, and chicken, with herb salads, and desserts, as we tally scores.
The team with the most correctly solved riddles and clues is the winner. First, second, and third place winning teams will leave with great Detroit-themed prizes, Arab American National Museum swag, and of course bragging rights. Prizes will also be awarded for the worst, funniest, most helpful, and hardest working teams.
Strolling dinner and open beer and wine bar included in your ticket price.
Vegetarian and meat lovers will both find mouth-watering options at dinner. The bar will be stocked with red and white wines plus local craft beers, and the Detroit standbys of Strohs and Altas.
Teams can be 2 to 6 people.
All team members must be 21 years old or older.
Each member of the team will need a ticket.
You do NOT need to proclaim your team before arrival. You’ll be organized upon arrival to work with a team of your choice.
Don’t have a team? No problem, we’ll pair you up with a group when you arrive to check in to the event.
We strongly recommend wearing comfortable footwear in order to best explore the museum and solve the mystery.
Late arrivals will not be accommodated and may forfeit their chance to participate.
Parking is free and secured inside the museum parking lot, located directly behind the museum.
Guests will not need any prior knowledge to enjoy the night and successfully solve the clues.

Because The Detroit History Club operates as a members-only club, out of private homes, hidden spaces, and secret locations, you’ll need to join before being able to buy tickets to events. At the checkout you’ll be asked if you are already a member; if not, select “New Member.” Membership to The Detroit History Club is five dollars per the calendar year. You can buy your membership under the membership tab on this website. Each person attending an event must have a membership of their own. Membership cards may be picked up at the first event you attend as a new member, and new cards are issued at the first event you attend each year.
