President Joe Biden entered the White House fully in favor of restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or “nuclear deal”, which the P5+1 had signed in 2015 and which President Donald Trump scuttled three years later. Most of Biden’s top national security advisers played some role in negotiating or implementing the JCPOA during the Obama administration.
What are the merits and shortcomings of the new administration’s approach to addressing the Iranian nuclear challenge? What progress if any, has the Biden team’s efforts yielded? Which factors are likely to improve or dim the prospects for a return to the JCPOA? What are the ramifications of an agreement to resurrect the nuclear agreement, or a failure to do so?
A panel of distinguished experts on nuclear non-proliferation will address these and other questions.
