Cuatro Puntos

WINDSOR, CT

Original music by Ameen Mokdad powerfully arranged for string quartet and dumbek.

About this Event:

Iraqi composer and multi-instrumentalist Ameen Mokdad was trapped for nearly two years in his hometown of Mosul. During that time he wrote an extraordinary repertoire of powerfully emotional music. He arranged it later for the Cuatro Puntos Resident Musicians. On this album you will hear a string quartet along with Ameen on dumbek, violin, and in recitation of poetry in Arabic.

Organizer of The Curve: Music of Iraqi Composer Ameen Mokdad:

Dedicated to Intercultural dialog and universal access through the performance, writing and teaching of music.

Cuatro Puntos” means “four points” in Spanish. The concept of “four points” conjures up varying images and interpretations among different people, and this very universality is the purpose and essence of the name.  Spanish was chosen both in homage to our original collaboration with an El Sistema program in Bolivia, and that fact that it is the most spoken language after English in our home town of Hartford, Connecticut.  Cuatro Puntos is a non profit organization which oversees the Cuatro Puntos Resident Chamber Ensemble, Music Moves Hartford, and various other projects that use the power of music to promote social change and empowerment of the undeserved.
