The Sufis and Henry Corbin called it the IMAGINAL: a real and living world accessible through the surrendered body.\n\nAt the heart of t he Sufi tradition are two divine qualities: Rahman and Rahim\, boundless m ercy and compassion. This evening asks a quiet\, radical question: what wo uld it mean to offer that same mercy to our own nervous systems?\n\nLed by South Asian artist Sahar F. Khundmiri\, we begin with an ancient breath p ractice drawn from the Sufi devotional tradition\; a conscious\, rhythmic breathing that gently shifts the body out of vigilance and into what scien ce now calls parasympathetic resonance\, or the physiological state in whi ch we stop defending and begin to receive.\n\nFrom there\, we are carried by an immersive sound bath woven from sitar\, harmonium\, singing bowls\, gongs\, drum\, voice\, and more...instruments that span centuries and trad itions\, each chosen for its capacity to dissolve. The sitar traces the sh ape of longing\, its resonant strings drawing the nervous system into stil lness. The harmonium breathes beneath it all. The bowls open the overtone world. The gong washes form away.\n\nThis is the Sufi teaching of fana\, o r the dissolution of the ego.
