SUMMARY:The Egyptian Lover
DESCRIPTION:\n\nGregory Broussard aka Egyptian Lover\, is an American music
ian\, vocalist\, producer and DJ\, and was a part of the L.A. dance music
and rap scene in the early 1980s.\n\n"Egyptian Lover is a legend in certai
n circles but a mystery to most – an artist who was in deep with most of
the West Coast hip-hop scene before the gangsta sound came along. Born Gr
eg Broussard\, Egyptian Lover was a rapper\, DJ\, and producer who was hug
ely influenced by the New York electro scene\, as well as by the electro-f
unk of Zapp. This was flat-out party music: not afraid to be a little corn
y\, and dynamite on the dancefloor. Although he began associating with Unc
le Jamm’s Army and Radio Crew\, it was as a solo artist that he made his
impact. “Egypt\, Egypt” was an LA anthem in 1984\, and "On the Nile"
was one of the first hip-hop albums to come out of the left coast. Even af
ter gangsta rap swept away all that before it\, his early works have remai
ned staples of electro sets across the world."\n\nStones Throw re-released
Egyptian Lover's definitive single "Egypt\, Egypt" as a three-sided "pyra
mid record\," and issued Egpytian Lover's anthology 1983-1988 in 2016.
