The MENA during COVID19 times - Iraq

During these exceptional times, it can be difficult to stay on top of developments in fragile countries in the MENA region, while it remains crucial to be well informed and to plan for sustainable and necessary interventions. With this in mind, the Greater Middle East Platform -an expert network from the Netherlands with excellent connections to the region- organizes a micro course on the specific situation in various countries during the pandemic.

The timing of the COVID-19 outbreak in Iraq has been particularly unfortunate, arriving concurrently with several other major crises, including a collapse in world oil prices, the absence of a functioning Iraqi government, and an escalating military conflict between the United States and Iran. These intensifying political, economic, security, and public health challenges are now converging, placing enormous strains on an already fragile Iraqi state.
