 early 1980s provide visual evidence of the colonization\, apartheid\, and 
 military systems Israel uses to maintain domination. Each of the scenes f
 rom 40 years ago has a corollary in the present and poses questions abou
 t the future related to dispossession\, subjugation\, intergenerational tr
 auma\, resistance\, right of return\, reparations\, and self-determination
 .\nThe two films also offer first-hand testimonies\, reminding us that for
  decades the Palestinian people have been telling the world about their pl
 ight\, to little avail.\nOur salon will discuss the issues that have remai
 ned consistent over time\, what’s new about the present moment\, and w
 hat we must do to bring about a just future.\n\nPanel and Moderator:\nAlin
 e Batarseh has served as executive director of Visualizing Palestine sinc
 e 2021. A Palestinian from East Jerusalem\, Aline has more than 20 years o
 f experience working with Palestinian and international nonprofits at the 
 intersections of gender equality\, reproductive justice\, children’s rig
 hts\, mental health\, and social justice. Aline has a master’s degree fr
 om the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University\, and a B.
 A. in communication studies from Gustavus Adolphus College. Aline is co-ed
 itor of Visualizing Palestine: A Chronicle of Colonialism and the Struggl
 e for Liberation (Haymarket Books\, 2024).\nSalim Tamari is Institute fo
 r Policy Studies (IPS) senior fellow and the former director of the Instit
 ute of Jerusalem Studies. He is former editor of Jerusalem Quarterly and H
 awliyyat al Quds. Salim is professor emeritus of sociology at Birzeit Univ
 ersity and has authored several works on urban culture\, political sociolo
 gy\, biography and social history\, and the social history of the Easte
 rn Mediterranean. Recent publications include: Camera Palestina: Photogra
 phy and the Silenced History of Palestine (2023)\; The Great War and the
  Remaking of Palestine (2020)\; and Year of the Locust: Palestine and Sy
 ria during WWI (2010).\nSami Awad is co-director of Nonviolence Internati
 onal and founder of the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem. Sami’s paternal fa
 mily became refugees in 1948\, and his mother is from the Gaza Strip. At a
  young age\, Sami was influenced by the teaching of his uncle Mubarak Awad
 \, the Palestinian nonviolent activist who promoted nonviolent resistance 
 to the occupation during the 1980s. Sami holds a doctoral degree in divini
 ty from the Chicago Theological Seminary\; an M.A. in international relati
 ons from the American University in Washington\, DC\; and a B.A. in politi
 cal science from the University of Kansas.\nMitchell Plitnick (moderator)
  is president of ReThinking Foreign Policy and is co-author\, with Marc La
 mont Hill\, of Except for Palestine: The Limits of Progressive Politics.
  Mitchell’s previous positions include vice president at the Foundati
 on for Middle East Peace\, director of the U.S. Office of B’Tselem: The 
 Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories\, 
 and co-director of Jewish Voice for Peace. His writing has appeared in Ha
 ’aretz\, The New Republic\, Responsible Statecraft\, Middle East Eye\, T
 he New Arab\, Middle East Report\, Mondoweiss\, the San Francisco Chronicl
