About the Webinar
The last few years have seen a significant increase in activism and support for Palestinian rights in the United States. But as support grew, so did the efforts and attempts to crack down on Palestine activism and silence advocate for change to US policy toward Palestine/Israel. A variety of suppression tactics have been used and recently intensified in order to pressure groups and individuals who support Palestinian rights and criticize Israeli policies against the Palestinians. These tactics include censorship of speech in support of Palestine, disciplinary investigations and dismissals, false accusations of anti-Semitism and terrorism, intimidation and smear campaigns, discrimination, media and social media bias and censorship, legal threats and administrative sanctions, and legislation criminalizing support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and punishing advocacy for Palestinian rights at the local, state, and federal levels. Arab Center Washington DC is hosting this panel of experts to discuss efforts to suppress and criminalize the movement for Palestinian rights in the United States and the implications of those measures for constitutional rights, the US political landscape, and the movements for justice in the United States.
