Greater Detroit Association Phi Beta Kappa
Plan to join PBKers at Theatre Nova in Ann Arbor to see the world premiere of Arabic to English by the award-winning playwright David Wells. Theatre Nova has agreed to host a talk-back between members of the cast and the audience afterward. We will then gather at nearby Arbor Brewing Company Brewpub (114 E Washington St) for no-host drinks, munchies, and conversation.
Arabic to English revolves around the crisis of an Arab American accused of making a fraudulent marriage to gain a visa. His interpreter, an Arab American woman, is torn between her emotional attraction to him and her engagement to a successful American lawyer. Does her dilemma affect the way she translates in court?
David Wells is known for his earlier plays Resisting, about relationships between police officers and a community, and Mazel Tov, John Lennon, about attempts by the Nixon administration to deport John Lennon.
PBKers should purchase tickets ($22) directly from Theatre Nova as soon as possible (https://www.theatrenova.org). Once you have purchased your tickets, please RSVP to this Eventbrite invitation to let us know you will be attending. Theatre Nova is a small, intimate performance venue with only about 60 seats. It is in the Yellow Barn at 410 West Huron Street, tucked away in the parking lot across from the YMCA. Parking is free. For more information, contact John Bassett at email@example.com.
Want to attend but don’t have a way to get there? Call or email PBK Secretary Megan Riherd at (321) 759-8125 or firstname.lastname@example.org to find out about carpooling opportunities.
