SUMMARY:THEORY OF CONFLICT Coolidge Corner Theatre Screening
DESCRIPTION:THEORY OF CONFLICT is the story of a diverse set of college stu
dents who must deal with the crisis of the Israel-Palestine conflict that
erupts on their campus. As they struggle with the challenges of college li
fe\, the isolating and intersubjective relationships of campus politics\,
each is confronted with the image looking back from their mirror and must
look beyond their campus and their time.\n\nRaised in a volatile Islam-Chr
istianity environment\, Rahman Oladigbolu is a Nigerian-born filmmaker who
has lived much of his life in the reverberations of the Israel-Palestine
conflict. In 2003 a diverse group of Quincy College students embarked on a
project to unite Arabs and Jews on their campus. At the time\, Rahman was
a student at the school\, and the stories of both the Jewish and Palestin
ian students left a strong impression on him -- not to mention the gratify
ing experience of seeing them come together in the end. As a budding filmm
aker at the time\, Rahman saw urgency in the story\, and felt a responsibi
lity to cinematically recreate the events for the world beyond Quincy Coll
ege.\n"Witnessing the generations-old gridlock in the Middle East\, I real
ized that this geopolitical quagmire polarizes people into exclusive pro-I
 srael or pro-Palestine camps\, with little\nexploration of nuances\, walki
ng of the middle ground\, or acknowledgement of the existential situation
of the other side. Indeed we see a short supply of people who are both pro
-Israel and pro-Palestine at the same time\, people who understand the his
torical and ideological complexity of the impasse and are able to support
and make efforts for the well-being of both peoples of the region."\nFollo
wing the screening\, there will be a discussion with key cast&amp\;crew me
mbers (Eddie Frateschi\, Andrea Hartnett and Faridat Ilupeju) lead by a fe
atured moderator\; who will educate the audience about the conflict and wh
at the film brings to the conversation. The story of the film is the Israe
li-Palestine conflict\, the message is the theory of conflict.\n\nOur curr
ent society is deeply divided and the sociopolitical climate has far worse
ned since over a decade ago when this film was being produced\, but the me
ssage remains the same. Is it possible to unite amidst deep division?\n\nT
his film screening is a platform to provide a safe space to be educated on
the matter and to further the conversation that explores the deeper layer
  of conflict resolution.
