About this Event
Join Justice for Muslims Collective as we celebrate our third annual Muslim human rights defender award fundraiser and concert. Each year, we select a Muslim human rights defender who exemplifies the spirit of Islam in the form of resisting and challenging oppression and injustice and working for the inclusion of all marginalized communities. This year, we are focusing on disrupting the status quo of state violence as a necessary facet of actual, and real-lasting change. We will be announcing the winner of the 2020 award in the coming days/week.
Our Ceremony & Concert include the Following Speakers/Performers:
- The Peace Poets (Spoken word artists/Movement song writers)
- Wayta DC (Indigenous music performers)
- Mohanad Elshieky (Comedian)
- Chaplain Yasmin Yonis (Chaplain)
- Rasha Abdulhadi (Poet)
- Sadiyah Bashir (spoken word)
There are four ticket levels:
$15: JMC Supporter – You’ve got our back
$25: JMC Accomplice – You help us get things done
$50: JMC Champion – You’re in it, to win it
$100: JMC Avenger – Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop
At the event, we will present our visual timeline of the War on Terror (virtually), which is a powerful display on the impacts of post 9/11 policies on Muslims and Muslim Americans. Come out and help us celebrate those who fight for us!
Since this event will contribute to our end of the year fundraising goals, we hope that we can rely on all of our gracious supporters to help us meet our goal of raising $15,000 to continue disrupting the status quo in 2020. This $15,000 goal will go towards the political consciousness and narrative shifting program. To help us reach this amount, this year our goal is to get 50 new sustainers (tell all your friends!) who will join our movement to end Islamophobia by the end of the year! This will help us ensure that we can start off 2021 with a strong foundation from which we can fight back against state violence.
