For over 70 years Israel has occupied Palestine and oppressed the Palestinian people. This has included ethnic cleansing, apartheid & illegal occupation.
Today the Netanyahu regime is planning to annex vast swathes of the West Bank, the latest act in the Israeli attempt to erase historic Palestine. We stand with those who oppose the terror of the Israeli state.
There has been an attempt to conflate anti-Zionism with antisemitism, and a sustained assault to say the pro-Palestinian movement is antisemitic as a result. However it is false to conflate opposition to Zionism with antisemitism. Anti-Zionism has existed, not least amongst Jews, ever since Zionism emerged as a political ideology in the latter part of the 19th century.
This event for students and young workers will be discussing the politics of the Palestinian question, and how socialists can build solidarity with the Palestinian people. Among other questions we will be exploring the following:
• What are the roots of Zionism?
• Is a two state solution possible
• How can Palestine be free?
