Arab American and Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar has been threatened by new House leader McCarthy from serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee. While she’s accused of antisemitism, her criticism is of Israeli oppressive action against Palestinians. On another front, John Mason, contributing writer, reports on how the state of Virginia is launching a legal case against those who support the BDS or boycott on Israel. Yet a third accusation of antisemitism concerns an invitation to Human Rights Watch former head Kenneth Roth from Harvard’s Kennedy School—one which was subsequently withdrawn.

In support of BDS, some countries are questioning support of the Miss Universe contest to be held this December 12 in the Israeli resort town of Eilat. Several countries or their representatives have dropped out. However, the reigning Miss Universe is hailing the event and doing publicity for it by visiting sites around Israel. There are other contestants whose presence at the beauty contest is debatable, with both Malaysia and Indonesia ready to join the boycott. Contributing writer, John Mason, reports in this Brief Note.
American workers have been trying to support Palestinians in several ways over the years. Recently Amazon and Google workers have tried to influence their companies’ decisions to supply the Israeli military and government technology used to harm Palestinians. Another case is of AFL-CIO workers who have voted to condemn Israeli violence against Palestinians and to end U.S. financial aid to Israel. On the Israel side is the government’s attempt to quell the important work of six Palestinian human rights organizations.
