Mohammad Tamimi, the 15-year-old brother of Palestinian protester Ahed Tamimi, was arrested by Israeli army forces early Monday morning, his father, Bassem, told Haaretz.

“They didn’t give any explanations beyond that he is wanted for questioning,” Bassem said, adding that the IDF, who came to the family’s home to arrest Mohammed at around 2:30 A.M., did not specify why he is being interrogated. “Since then he’s been in detention and we’re trying to free him on bail via a lawyer.”

According to his father, Mohammed suffered a broken arm and lower body injuries when he was hit by a tear gas canister during the Land Day protests in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh two weeks ago. He said Mohammed is in need of medical supervision.

Mohammed was likely arrested for throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, Bassem said. The military announced that it arrested 21 Palestinians overnight for rioting and other disturbances, without providing further details.

Ahed Tamimi served eight months in an Israeli prison for slapping two Israeli soldiers in an incident captured on film that made her a symbol of Palestinian opposition to Israeli military rule. In a video taken of her brother’s arrest she yells: “Stop, or I will hit you.”
