A year ago tomorrow President Trump signed an executive order banning people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States and temporarily banning all refugees. Naureen Shah, senior director of campaigns at Amnesty International USA, released the following statement:

“The Muslim ban was the first devastating sign that President Trump was putting the hateful rhetoric of his campaign into action. It sent shockwaves through the world, caused turmoil in airports, tore families apart, created backlash from the international community and stoked fear and anxiety in Muslim communities inside and outside U.S. borders.

“But it also galvanized a movement. We will never forget how thousands of people took to the streets in the U.S. and across the world in outraged protest of this truly cruel and bigoted policy. We remain outraged and we will continue to fight  the Muslim ban every step of the way.”

Amnesty International has documented the impact of the ban on people across the world and mobilized thousands of people to call their members of Congress and ask them to stop this ban.
