2012 ADC Convention Brings Arab Americans to Washington
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to officially announce its 2012 ADC National Convention from June 21-24, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Throughout ADC’s 32 years of service to the Arab American community, it has been our mission to help protect the civil rights Arab Americans, promote mutual understanding, and preserve our cultural heritage as Arab Americans.
With an important upcoming presidential election only a few months away, the overall theme for this year’s convention is ‘Taking Charge, Moving Forward: Decision 2012’ and will tackle many key sociopolitical issues facing our country today. At the national level, these past few years have been filled with anti-Arab political rhetoric, unwarranted surveillance of constitutionally-protected activities and negative stereotyping in our American media of the Arab American community. With 2012 being a presidential election year, it is important for Arab Americans to discuss issues of political importance at the ADC Convention in Washington, DC to help empower our community for generations to come.
In addition to dozens of panels and keynote speeches, this year’s ADC Convention features the following prominent personalities:
Benjamin Jealous, president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
Michael Moore, Academy Award-winning director of ‘Bowling for Columbine’
Ben Rhodes, White House Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting
