Abbas Fires Ambassador to Moscow for Attending “Hamas” Rally on Gaza

posted on: Mar 26, 2009

According to the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, Palestinian Ambassador Afif Safieh will soon leave Moscow. His friends across North America are shocked to read that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) has recalled Ambassador Safieh for attending a rally in support of Gaza.

The rally focused on the brutal Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip that left some 1,400 Palestinians dead, more than 5,400 wounded, and tens of thousands of families homeless. President Abbas believes that Safieh criticized the Palestinian Authority at the rally, but we know that— as usual—Safieh did not point fingers or take sides. Like all of us, he supports a unified Palestinian government working for peace.

Please fax a letter in support of Ambassador Afif Safieh to President Mahmoud Abbas. Tell him about the excellent work his representative accomplished while he worked in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia.

Ambassador Safieh’s proud voice spoke on behalf of every Palestinian and every supporter of peace and justice. And his words touch hearts and minds wherever he goes.
