ADC Michigan MLK Scholarship Program Issues Last Call for Scholarship Applications

posted on: Jan 6, 2009

The ADC Michigan MLK Essay Deadline is January 15th.

ADC Michigan is pleased to announce that scholarship applications are available for its 2009 MLK Scholarship Program and will be accepted by mail or delivery to the ADC Michigan office no later than 4:30 p.m. January 15th. This scholarship essay contest is open to Arab and Chaldean high school seniors throughout the state of Michigan. ADC is proud to announce that this year, the Detroit Branch NAACP will co-host this event, as a collaborative effort in commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday and ADC’s 10th Anniversary of this unique event. The ceremony will be held at 6:00PM on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Greenfield Manor Banquet Hall in Dearborn.

As the only program in Michigan that works to bring together the Arab American and African American communities through the struggles and teaching of Dr. King, ADC hopes to continue to expand this program as it enters into another decade of celebration. The MLK Planning Committee has mailed fliers to area high schools, announcing the criteria for writing an essay that depicts what the message of Martin Luther King means to each participating student.

Depending on funding made available from various corporate and community sponsors, judges select a specific number of students to receive scholarships. These students will then be honored at the community reception, which is held around Dr. King’s birthday.
