Anaheim Mayor Highlights Little Arabia

posted on: Feb 6, 2014

In an effort to brand West Anaheim’s Brookhurst Street as Little Arabia, the Arab American Civic Council developed a plan to partner with the City of Anaheim to highlight the distinctive economic, cultural, and community characteristics of Little Arabia in order to attract tourism and address community safety and development. The event was held on Tuesday, January 28th and hosted by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce.

During last week’s State of the City address, Mayor Tom Tait stood before more than 600 prominent Anaheim community and business leaders and elected officials encouraging them to visit Little Arabia to experience the city’s ethnic diversity:

”We all know that Anaheim has some of the most authentic and diverse neighborhoods in the state. Our city is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Take for example, Brookhurst Street, or as the locals refer to it, Little Arabia.

“Home to halal butcher shops, restaurants, beauty salons, travel agencies, bakeries and more, this neighborhood is really a cultural destination in our city. Whether you are stopping by Olive Tree for delicious lamb or picking up some baklava at Papa Hassan’s, Little Arabia gives visitors a different experience than a typical convention city.”
