Anti-Muslim attacker doing well in treatment program

A Brooklyn man who went on a drunken bigoted rampage against two Muslim women is “turning his life around” after agreeing with prosecutors to go to a treatment program instead of behind bars.

Brian Boshell pleaded guilty in May to attempted assault as a hate crime and menacing as a hate crime when he yelled offensive threats at two leading members of the Arab-American Association of New York and threw a garbage can at them last September.

Linda Sarsour and Kayla Santosuosso agreed with prosecutors to give the 46-year-old man a jail-alternative option.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Boshell has to attend a drug and alcohol treatment program and is performing well.

“This is a good update, the defendant is rapidly engaged and shows he is motivated,” Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun said Wednesday.

His lawyer, Daniel Moore, said outside court, “This is second chance. He’s happy and will take advantage of this opportunity.”

If Boshell successfully completes the program he will receive three years’ probation. If he falls off the wagon, he faces up to six years in prison.
