Arab and Western Artists’ Combination Brings Success
Desert Rose is a highly popular number in the West as well as in the Arab World.
This is a duet by British well-known artist Sting of the former group ‘The Police’, who was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen and Cheb Mami of Algeria.
Cheb Mami is a rai singer like Cheb Khaled from the same country and now domiciled in France.
Cheb Mami is a winner of World Music Award for world’s best-selling Middle Eastern artists.
Sting is a philanthropist apart from being a top class musician, song writer and gifted with the talent of playing many musical instruments. His ‘Desert Rose’ goes with the opening lyrics:
‘I dream of rain ye…yeyi yele…., I dream of gardens in the desert sand, I wake up in pain ye… yeyi yele…., I dream of love as time runs through my hand ye…yeyi yele’
The musical back up is really outstanding and Cheb Mami’s contribution in Arabic ‘Layli Ya laili’ in the duet is making the song one of the best composition ever.
This success encouraged the king of rai, Cheb Khalid to join Pitbull and release another smashing hit ‘Hiya Hiya’, which went viral in Youtube.
It did not stop there because the Egyptian popular singer Tamer Hosny also joined Snoop Dogg to release his duet ‘Si Al Sayed’, which became an amazing success instantly.
I am sure Desert Rose, Hiya Hiya and Si Al Sayed have come to stay to entertain the music lovers in this part of the world for a long time to come.
