posted on: Mar 31, 2016

CAIR-MI today expressed concern about anti-Islam and anti-immigrant graffiti on the campus of the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.

Messages including “#StopIslam,” “Trump 2016” and “Build the Wall” were written in chalk in a central location of the campus in which students congregate.

“We are concerned that these recent anti-Islam and anti-immigrant messages are creating an environment in which some students, teachers and other university faculty members feel unsafe on campus,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “We encourage anyone who has information about these messages to immediately contact the university’s Department of Public Safety.”

Walid noted that the intolerant and xenophobic rhetoric coming from GOP presidential candidates has raised concerns among Muslim students at the University of Michigan and other campuses throughout the state.
