Crack Down on Hate with Us!
We challenge you, Americans of all backgrounds and creeds, to crack an egg on your head to stand up to bigotry and show solidarity with the minority communities who have been suffering from hate crimes since Election Day.
Many Americans right now are feeling helpless, confused, and frustrated in the post-election haze. Arab Americans, particularly Muslims, have been targeted and attacked by demeaning rhetoric, violence, and plain old hate for the past year and a half simply because of their ethnicity, national origin, or religion.
If you are scared for the future, worried about being deported, ashamed to put on a hijab in the morning, troubled by the chants of school children, apprehensive of strangers, and antsy to get up and do something – you are not alone.
Let’s work together to stand up against hate and anyone who calls for it. For the past ten years, Arab America has been dedicated to publishing content that accurately portrays Arab Americans and Muslims, while empowering them to speak up for the community.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Take a photo or video of yourself smashing an egg on your head
- Share it on social media and use the hashtag #CrackTheHateChallenge
- Challenge your friends and family to do the same
- Support Arab America so we can remain on the front-lines of hate prevention
Arab America serves to combat stereotypes and misconceptions about our community through digital media:
- We congratulate Arab Americans on their success when no one else will.
- We report on hate crimes and discrimination against Arab Americans when no one else cares.
- We share accurate information about Arab Americans when others are spreading lies.
- We empower our community to become leaders; not scapegoats.
- We strengthen our community by building coalitions with Arab Americans of all backgrounds, from Morocco to Yemen, from Muslims to Christians.
- We don’t just react to incidents of bigotry, we prevent them from happening in the future.
But we need your help to continue dismantling the notion that Arab Americans – or any minority community – are not equal parts in the foundation of America’s economy and society.
We challenge you to stand up to hate, defend your civil rights, and share a positive story. Crack an egg on your head to show solidarity for the communities who have suffered from bullying for too long.
Remember, there are no “egg-ceptions” to hate!
