Dr. Jeremy Lazarus, AMA President-Elect, to Keynote NAAMA's 33rd National Medical Convention

The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) announced that Jeremy A. Lazarus, M.D., president-elect of the American Medical Association (AMA), will be the keynote speaker during its Annual Delegates Meeting on Sunday, September 4th. The Annual Delegates Meeting takes place during NAAMA’s 33rd National Medical Convention at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 2-5, 2011. Themed Integrated Medical Care Delivery in the Era of Healthcare Reform,” scientific sessions will address cardiology, pulmonary/sleep medicine, minimally invasive surgery, diabetes, hypertension, dental care as part of preventive medicine, the application of new modalities in radiology and clinical and translational research.

Dr. Lazarus, a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice in Denver, was elected president-elect of the AMA in June 2011, after having served as speaker of the AMA House of Delegates from 2007 to 2011 and vice speaker from 2003 to 2007. He is a past president of the Colorado Medical Society, the Colorado Psychiatric Society and the Arapahoe County Medical Society.

Dr. Wassim Younes, 2011 convention chair, said, “The AMA has been at the forefront of healthcare reform in America and Dr. Lazarus’ remarks on the subject fit well with our theme of delivering effective medical care in the era of reform. Our attendees will gain great insight from Dr. Lazarus.”

The convention features a concert by internationally renowned Arab composer and musician Simon Shaheen and his Arab Orchestra with special guest vocalists to benefit NAAMA’s Emergency Medical Relief Fund. In response to continuing violence in Arab countries, the NAAMA Foundation established the Relief Fund to provide medical supplies and equipment to victims.

The 90-minute concert, open to the public, occurs Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 8:30 p.m. at Avriopolis Las Vegas. NAAMA’s 33rd National Medical Convention is presented in collaboration with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS).

This event, expected to attract 300 attendees from across the United States, is open to NAAMA members and non-members, physicians as well as
