posted on: Aug 5, 2008

Emirates Airline will operate its newly delivered A380 superjumbo three times a week on its New York-Dubai route, the airline announced on Sunday.

The A380 will fly the route on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, Emirates said in a statement.

Eventually the aircraft will be added to Emirates’ twice-daily service to New York. It will also begin the London Heathrow route from December 1, then the Sydney and Auckland service from February 2009, Emirates said.

Emirates Airline President Tim Clark also indicated more US cities are being evaluated for Emirates route network including Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Washington.

The New York announcement follows the A380’s first flight to New York on August 1, a 13.5-hour journey with 489 passengers on-board.

The A380 landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport, becoming the first commercial A380 jet to touch down on US soil.

Emirates is expected to receive four more superjumbos before March 2009.
