IMAGE Entertainment Releases Day of the Falcon March 1

posted on: Feb 12, 2013

IMAGE Entertainment will release DAY OF THE FALCON (aka BLACK GOLD) on VOD on February 1, 2013 and in Theaters on March 1, 2013. Film stars Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim and directed by award-winning director Jean-Jacques Annaud.

DAY OF THE FALCON is an epic adventure film with global appeal that offers a positive portrayal of the Arab culture, landscape and Islam. By partnering with the Doha Film Institute, they were able to bring local work opportunities and create recognition and exposure to the Arab region. While the film is deeply rooted in history, the cast and crew were able to witness history in the making during the film’s production in Qatar and Tunisia as it coincided with the pivotal Arab Spring uprising demonstrations. The theme of how one man’s protest led to a nationwide uprising and the downfall of a corrupt government, interestingly mirrored the film’s own storyline of upheaval in the Arab world during a different time. The film itself faced an unforgettable journey led by its Arab producer, Tarak Ben Ammar, with not only the traditional production difficulties but the impact to the filming schedule and the safety of the cast and crew during a time of political upheaval around them.

SYNOPSIS: Starring Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Mark Strong (Zero Dark Thirty), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Tahar Rahim (The Eagle), Day of the Falcon is a soaring epic of honor, greed, betrayal and love from award-winning director Jean-Jacques Annaud (Enemy at the Gates). After years of bloody conflict, the leaders of two rival kingdoms reluctantly agree to end the fighting. But when oil is discovered between their territories, the war is re-ignited. Now it is up to their children – young lovers who have married in hopes of bringing the families together – to find a way to end the violence and bring peace to the land.
