Israeli-Arab Film ‘Ajami’ Nominated for Oscar
The Israeli-Arab film “Ajami” was announced as one of the five nominees for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar on Tuesday.
It was directed by Scandar Copti, an Israeli-Palestinian Christian, and Yaron Shani, an Israeli Jew.
Filmed in the highly polarized city of Jaffa, “Ajami” focuses on the conflicts and alliances amongst Israeli Arabs and Jews, Arab Christians and Muslims, as well as West Bank Palestinians and Beduins.
“Ajami” is the first Oscar nominated film to highlight Israeli-Palestinian relations.
Other films competing for the highly coveted Oscar include El Secreto do Sus Ojos (Argentina), Un Prophete (France), The White Ribbon (Germany) and The Milk of Sorrow (Peru).
The winner will be announced on March 7th at the 82nd Academy Awards Ceremony (8 pm).
