What a difference a year makes.

12 months on from Ramos, Karius, Bale and the crushing disappointment of last year’s Champions League final in Kiev, Liverpool have finally made amends and claimed the biggest trophy in club football for the sixth time in their history. It caps a remarkable two seasons of ups and downs under Jurgen Klopp.

One of the men at the centre of this rollercoaster period has been Mo Salah, cruelly robbed of a performance in last year’s final by an early shoulder injury, this year he finally putting those memories to rest by scoring an early penalty that set his team off with a lead that they never relinquished.

After a first interview attempt was interrupted by the Liverpool squad running towards their travelling supporters, BT Sport caught up with Mo Salah on the pitch after the final whistle. Salah’s joy was there for all to see as he was reminded of last year’s disappointment and how it compared to tonight.

Honestly I don’t know what to say, but everyone is happy now. You win a final. I’m very glad to play a second final in a row and play 90 minutes finally. Everyone did his best to win the game. It’s not an individual performance for everyone but all the team were unbelievable today. Congratulations to all of us and all the fans around the world.

I’ve sacrificed a lot in my career, especially coming from my village to Cairo to play football and come back. To be an Egyptian and play football at that level for me is something unbelievable so I’m very happy and I’m very glad for that.
