Lebanese-American Organizations Celebrate On Capitol Hill The 10th Anniversary Of Lebanon's Cedar Revolution
The Lebanese Information Center, along with other Lebanese-American organizations, will host the 10th Annual Commemoration of Lebanon’s Cedar Revolution on Thursday, April 30, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, in the Rayburn House Office building at the US Congress. As has become custom, the LIC will commemorate the independence uprising that took place onMarch 14, 2005 and the ensuing withdrawal of the Syrian occupation forces.
Members of Congress, administration officials, and representatives from the White House and the Departments of State and Defense are expected to be on hand for the event. Leading experts fromWashington think tanks and research centers, as well as members of the Lebanese diaspora in the United States also will be on hand.
This year’s commemoration comes at a challenging time for the Middle East and in particular for Lebanon, which strives for sovereignty, stability, and prosperity in a region beset by turmoil. We of the Lebanese Information Center and of similar Lebanese-American organizations continue to stand against the destabilizing actions of ISIS and Al-Qaeda affiliates as well of Hezbollah, Iran, and the Syrian regime, which seek to transform Lebanon into their battlefield.
The 10th anniversary of the Cedar Revolution is an important milestone for us, as Americans of Lebanese descent, as we work to keep the cause of a free Lebanon alive for decision-makers in Washington, D.C. and around the world.
Every year, this commemoration sends a powerful message that the Lebanese diaspora in the United Statesand the US government will stand together, now more than ever, in support of the Lebanese people, the legitimate institutions of the Lebanese state, and the struggle for genuine democracy, stability, and peace in Lebanon.
