Lyft Driver goes on anti-Muslim rant #HummusHaters
With all the anti-Arab bashing we see in the news every week, Arab America is determined to expose those who discriminate against our community. We will recognize those who vilify the positive influence and contributions Arabs have made to the fabric of American society. And we will use hummus as our weapon. By naming those who vilify the Arab American community as #HummusHaters, we can express our culture positively while showing intolerance to bigotry.

Two residents of Salt Lake City, Utah were very upset with a Lyft ride they took on Friday with “Dave the Lyft Driver”. The two residents, Samuel Grenny and Sara Day, were on their way to a Bernie Sanders for President party, which prompted “Dave the Lyft Driver” to begin an anti-Muslim rant. In a video that Day took during the Lyft ride, “Dave the Lyft Driver” can be heard saying repeatedly: “Muslims are terrorists and pieces of [excrement].” Thankfully, Grenny and Day were not afraid to tell the driver that his statements were offensive and inappropriate.
The couple ended their Lyft ride before reaching the party and sent a complaint to the company. The next day, Lyft refunded the couple, terminated Dave, and issued an apology saying, “Lyft is committed to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment, and discrimination and racism are not tolerated.”
Now that he’s out of a job, “Dave the Lyft Driver” could use some comfort food and reflection. What better way is there to cheer up than by eating a bowl of hummus with chopped vegetables and pita bread? So the next time he thinks about being bigoted toward Muslims, “Dave the former Lyft Driver” can remember how delicious that hummus was and forget about being a #HummusHater
